Children’s House - KOOMAL
At Casa Mia Montessori, our Children’s House is a place where learning feels natural, joyful, and deeply connected to the child’s world. More than a classroom, it feels like a home; calm, beautiful, and designed to meet the developmental needs of children in the first plane of development (3–6 years).
Each space is carefully prepared to encourage independence, exploration, and care for self, others, and the environment. Low shelves display inviting Montessori materials that children can access freely, empowering them to make choices and engage in meaningful work. Child-sized furniture, accessible sinks, and practical tools support children to take care of their surroundings, preparing food, cleaning, watering plants, and contributing to the life of the community.
These everyday experiences form the foundation for lifelong learning. As children work purposefully with their hands, they develop concentration, coordination, confidence, and a growing sense of belonging within their classroom family.
A Three-Year Journey of Growth and Discovery
The Children’s House program is a three-year cycle, offering a consistent and nurturing environment where each child can grow at their own pace. The mixed-age community allows for natural mentoring and collaboration: younger children are inspired by their older peers, while older children build leadership and empathy as they model and guide others.
This multi-age approach is at the heart of Montessori education and reflects our belief that learning happens best within community, where children feel seen, valued, and supported.
Pre-Kindy (3 Years)
For our youngest children, learning begins through doing. Practical Life activities; pouring, polishing, dressing, preparing food, caring for plants and animals, help children refine coordination and build independence. Sensorial materials invite exploration through touch, sight, sound, smell, and taste, helping children classify and make sense of the world around them.
Through Grace and Courtesy lessons, children learn the language of kindness and respect, how to greet others, take turns, listen attentively, and resolve conflict peacefully. These experiences nurture both social awareness and self-confidence.
Kindergarten (4 Years)
As their curiosity grows, children begin to explore more complex Montessori materials that extend their understanding and concentration. Through hands-on learning, they are introduced to number concepts and early mathematics, phonetic sounds, and the foundations of writing.
Cultural studies; including geography, science, art, and music, invite wonder and discovery, helping children build an understanding of their community and the wider world. At this stage, children’s confidence and independence flourish as they follow their interests and deepen their sense of responsibility within the classroom.
Pre-Primary (5 Years)
The final year in the Children’s House brings together all the skills, knowledge, and confidence your child has built during their earlier years. Older children begin to take on leadership roles, supporting younger classmates and demonstrating the independence and empathy they have developed.
In literacy, children move from forming words to reading and writing with joy and purpose. In mathematics, they explore the decimal system and the four operations using concrete materials that give them a true understanding of how numbers work. Cultural and creative studies continue to inspire curiosity, connecting children to the wonder of their world and their place within it.
Preparing for the Next Chapter
By the end of their Children’s House journey, children are confident, capable, and eager learners. They have developed independence, curiosity, care for others, and a love of learning that will guide them well beyond these early years.
As they prepare to transition into our Primary (Cycle 2) environment, they do so with a sense of joy, belonging, and readiness, grounded in the skills, values, and confidence nurtured through their Montessori beginnings at Casa Mia.
