Rachel Walker

Born in the UK and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1989. I emigrated to Australia in 1993 and heard about Montessori shortly after.

My Daughter Robyn (who is now a 6 – 9 Montessori teacher at Rockingham Montessori) joined Maroubra Montessori at aged 3 years old and moved to Montessori East at 6 years old. At that time Montessori East was operating on 4 sites and wanted to amalgamate into one site. I joined their board to assist with the move and remained on the board as treasurer for 2 years.

In 2003 we moved to WA and my daughter joined Beehive Montessori. In 2004 I set up the first Montessori childcare centre in WA. I owned Southbank Montessori until 2023 when I retired. I also helped set up Montessori Gardens in Caversham. I designed and build my own childcare centre in 2007.

I joined the board of Rockingham Montessori School in 2012. During this time we have expanded from 1 campus with 70 children to 3 school campuses with 350 children plus 2 childcare centres.

As part of the expansion we had to fit out 2 new school sites. The childcare centre at Port Kennedy was operating when we purchased it and we have spent the last 12 months changing it into a Montessori childcare centre.

I was on the Casa Mia board for approx. 12 months when Janet the former principal asked me to investigate the possibility of amalgamating with Riverlands. I left the board after the parents decided this was not an option they wanted to pursue.

As I am now retired I have time to dedicate to the project of securing and building a new school for Casa Mia.
